MMTA Honors Drivers of the Month & Fleet Safety Winners!

On February 6, 2025, David Grimsley, Sr. of D. M. Bowman was named Maryland’s truck driver of the year by the Maryland State Police. Grimsley was one of 12 drivers recognized by Maryland Motor Truck Association as the 2024 Drivers of the Month, with the State Police choosing him from among the 12 winners as the Driver of the Year. David has traveled over 3.6 million safe miles in a 40 year career.

The combined records of the Drivers of the Month equal 379 years of experience and over 25 million miles of safe driving. Congratulations to all of our winners for their incredible safety records! A list of all winners is below. 

Also at the Safety Awards Banquet, the winners were announced of MMTA’s fleet safety contest. They were:

  • 0 - 250,000 Miles Division - Ramar Moving Systems
  • 250,001 - 500,000 Miles Division - Von Paris Moving & Storage
  • 500,001 – 1,000,000 Miles Division - Richard B. Rudy
  • Over 1,000,000 Miles Division - Carroll Motor Fuels

Richard B. Rudy received the grand trophy for having the lowest accident frequency rate among all winners.

Jonathan Kuentz of Ross Contracting was presented with the Richard G. Anderson Safety Award. This select award is given out to those individuals for their longtime contributions to safety and in support of Maryland Motor Truck Association.

At the banquet Senior Trooper Robert Hobbs of the Maryland State Police was also recognized as the Inspector of the Year based on his performance at the national competition held last August.
